Colourstrings training starts in the music kindergarten where children learn about different music concepts - rhythm, pitch, dynamics, melody, tempo, character, form and style - in an enjoyable and stimulating but very structured way.
Classes are for ages between two and five years, and they will
learn to read and write conventional musical notation.
Singing, rhythm games, movement to music, playing percussion and tuned instruments, listening to music and performing, composing and improvising all form part of the training in this age range.
In addition, their inner hearing will be well trained so that they can hear a piece of music in their heads when they see it written down, and also write down a piece of music they hear.
This is one of the most important skills to develop if a child is to be a good musician.
Your children will probably enjoy singing at home the songs they have learnt in the classes here, even if they do not sing in the class at first. It has been shown that all children can become musical - a lot depends on exposure to music in the early years.
If a child does not wish to make music his or her career, s/he will still have a high degree of musical competence and a deep love of music that will last a lifetime.
Colourstrings was developed by the Hungarian Szilvary brothers, who are well known to string players and educators over the world. Their approach to music teaching, 'Colourstrings', based on Kodaly principles, represent, we believe, the finest opportunity for young children to be taught musicianship skills and early instrumental skills in an integrated way.
